HISTORY AND CULTURAL OF ITESO The Teso (or Iteso, people of Teso) are an ethnic group in eastern Uganda and western Kenya. Teso refers to the traditional homeland of the Iteso. Teso live mainly in Teso sub-region, in the present districts of Amuria, Soroti, Kumi, Katakwi, Ngora , Serere, Pallisa, Bukedea and Kaberamaido, as well as Tororo and Busia District. The Iteso speak an Eastern Nilotic language. The Eastern Nilotic Branch of Nilotic is divided into the Teso-speaking and Maa-speaking (Maasai) branches. The Teso Branch is further divided into speakers of Ateso (the language of the Iteso) and those of the Karamojong cluster, including the Turkana, Ikaramojong, Jie, and Dodoth in Kenya and Uganda. Iteso traditions relate that they originated somewhere in what is now Sudan and moved south over a period of centuries. It is not possible to calculate the time of this movement. DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS CALLED ROLEX? “Rolex” is a popular food item in Uganda, combining an egg omelette and vegetables wrapped in a chapati. Rolex is classic Ugandan street food. The basic idea is eggs cooked with cabbage, onion, tomato, and sometimes peppers, which is then wrapped in chapati. But, as the words careened off their tongue, “Rolled Eggs” sounded more like “Rolex” to visitors. Gradually the (quite fun) misinterpretation stuck. . Rolex is Uganda’s first food which can be eaten anytime and anywhere. You can have it as breakfast, lunch and as well as super, Rolex can be purchased on any street corner of Uganda at any time. The name "rolex" comes from its method of preparation, with the chapati and the omelette rolled together. THE ANKORE CULTURE OF UGANDA www.zulatravels.com Ankole kingdom was one of the four big traditional kingdoms in Uganda at the time of independence covering the present districts of Mbarara, Bushenyi, Ntungamo, Kiruhura, Ibanda and Isingiro in western Uganda. The kingdom covered areas of most of the areas currently occupied by Ankole people.
