Uganda’s Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC) has been hit by yet another blow with the death of the oldest chimpanzee. Zakayo 54 years, Uganda’s known oldest chimpanzee died at the Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC). This has been confirmed by the centre’s executive director James Musinguzi. Speaking to Zuula Uganda , Musinguzi said Zakayo started feeling unwell about 3 weeks ago and has been on treatment until yesterday. Preliminary findings indicate that he succumbed to Chronic Gastroenteritis. “Due to his old age, he was highly susceptible to opportunistic infections. Please join us as we celebrate the life of this legendary chimpanzee who once lived as a dominant male and brought up the chimpanzee family at UWEC,” said Musinguzi. According to Musinguzi, Zakayo nurtured two Alpha male chimpanzees, Matooke, who led the group up to 2013, and Aluma who took over in 2013 up to today. Zakayo’s adopted Zakayo was found abandoned o

Baboons  Baboons are some of the most identifiable of the monkey world. They have tufts of hair on either side of their faces and large, hairless bottoms that can turn red. These old-world monkeys also do not have prehensile tails like some other monkeys, which means they don't use their tail like a hand. Zuula Uganda Cranes There are two subspecies. The East African (crested crane) occurs in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and in Uganda, of which it is the national bird represented in its national flag , and Kenya to eastern South Africa. It has a larger area of bare red facial skin above the white patch than the smaller nominate species, (South African crowned crane), which breeds from Angola south to South Africa. The Physical Description     A Grey Crowned Crane is a tall bird measuring about 1 m and a body weight of about 3- 4 kg. They have a large wingspan which measures between 180cm to 200 cm wide, the body is largely covered grey fur but the wings are mainly white and the feathers have a variety of colors. The head is crowned, the crown is made up of still golden feathers.
